Anthony LoCoco


July 19, 1923 - Jan. 20, 2004

Anthony LoCoco, 80, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004. He had been a resident of Tucson for the past year and a half at Friendly Village of the Catalinas and previously of Sierra Vista, Ariz. for more than 30 years.

Anthony was born on July 19, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Joseph and Sarah LoCoco. Anthony served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Essex during World War II. In his 28 months of combat duty, he received several awards, including the Presidential Unit Citation.

Anthony married his beautiful bride, Marie, in Michigan. Their many adventures included their move to Sierra Vista  During his many years in Sierra Vista, Anthony was well known as a barber at Tony's Barber Shop. He enjoyed being a collector of many things, taking countryside drives, music, and visits from his grandchildren.

Anthony will always be remembered as a generous and kind man, who despite his self-proclaimed shyness enjoyed being in the company of his many friends and family.

Anthony was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; two sons, Joseph and Jerry; two sisters, Sarah Badalamente and Augustine Guarascio; and one brother, John LoCoco.

Anthony is survived by his sister, Josephine DeAngelis of Detroit, Mich.; two grandchildren, Theresa (Ryan) Huffman of Tucson and Jerry LoCoco of Phoenix; and 11 nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on today, Jan. 23, 2004, at the Hatfield Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church, 1425 Yaqui, with Father Bob Bryerton officiating. Interment will follow at Cochise Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sierra Vista.
