My father, then Maj. James M. Johnson, (NA) USMC 06824, served as XO of VMF-124 aboard the USS Essex during Jan-Feb, 1945. After the war he commanded VMF-223 (F4U 4's) at El Toro, and in 1951, joined newly formed MAG-32 at LTA (Lighter Than Air) Tustin, CA. (HRS-1 Helicopters) and retired as S-3 of that facility in June, 1962. He passed away on May 10, 1992.
