Under Construction

All monies (Tax Deductible) to support this project come from donations in the  USS Essex Membership and other interested parties. These are then sent thru our Treasurer Robert Peters to the Hornet Foundation for use in rehabilitating the Essex Compartment. This work is being done solely by David Starr which includes cleaning and removing all lockers and stanchions. He is also removing metal weld projections from the deck, painting all overhead areas, bulkheads and deck. The deadline for Viewing this project is the fall of 2002.

For each one of the rooms I work in, I make a sign on my computer and then laminate it. This is posted on the hatch leading into the Essex room. Removing Lockers from the space Removed lockers out on the elevator
This is a control box to turn on and off the ventilation blowers. Before I restored it, it looked like hell. You could not read any of the signs/plates, everything was plastered with seafoam green and it was covered in masking tape. It took 5 Jasco applications to get the signs/plates clean and readable. Check out the brass work Dave did for this fire station control panel in the ESSEX room!

Dave reports that as of 3/30/02 all of the white overhead is done as well as the seafoam green on all the bulkheads! I am going to get the deck ready for painting next weekend.

4/13/02 - Before I do the deck gray, I needed to do the 3 inch hunter green trim all around the compartment. I did most of that this weekend.
