Here is the only cartoon that I have from the Essex newspaper re the announcement that we were going to Truck

Artist: D.G. Peterson

Appears to be dated 8/4/1945

Following are cartoons from old copies of the ESSEX Buccaneer. Don G. Peterson was featured in the Buccaneer masthead as one of the staff artists. His name first shows up in Vol 1, Issue No. 7, Dec. 8, 1944. It is unknown if he worked on issue No. 6. He isn't listed in Issue 5, July 4, 1944 or earlier. The Buccaneer was printed on mimeograph paper sheets 11 x 17 and folded into each other to make a newsletter 8-1/2 x 11.Other staff artists were Lewis Cook and E.G. Katigbak. The co-editors were G.G. Grossett and R.R. Spence. The Buccaneer was not an official Navy publication. It was a labor of love to inform, unite and amuse the crew during their times of tedium between combat situations. I suspect it was permitted by a benevolent Executive Officer (CDR F.T. Corbin) and Commanding Officer (Capt R.A. Ofstie) who cared about morale.
