On October 14, 1944, the Japanese were after Essex with a vengeance. This photo shows one of four Tenzan torpedo bombers (Jill) in attack. This plane attacked low on the starboard bow of the carrier, it's torpedo passed close along the starboard side. Seconds later it was shot down by anti-aircraft fire.
